We’re delighted to have The Laragh Trio with us to celebrate St. Patrick’s day, all the way from Ireland! Featuring esteemed Irish musicians Sineád Farrell, flute (ACMF 2022, 2023, 2025), Fiarchra Garvey, piano and ACMF Artistic Director Katie Tertell, cello. Come be whisked away to the Emerald Isle in a celebration of all things Irish with foot tapping jigs, poetic Irish airs and everything in between, as well as a few of your favorite Irish tunes for Paddy’s day.

Sinead Farrell, flute

Dublin born flautist, Sinéad Farrell, combines a busy career as an orchestral musician, teacher, soloist and chamber musician. She studied flute with Doris Keogh and William Dowdall, and piccolo with Patricia Morris and Catriona Ryan. Sinéad is a former degree student at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She also received a licenciate diploma in piano, having studied piano with Hugh Tinney and Darina Gibson. 

In 2008, Sinéad was appointed principal piccolo/sub principal flute at the National Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with many leading orchestras including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Ireland, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera. 

As a soloist, Sinéad has performed concerti with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Dublin Orchestral Players, Hibernian Chamber Orchestra and the RIAM symphony orchestra. She has given many recitals around Ireland with acclaimed Irish pianists, Hugh Tinney and Darina Gibson. 

Sinéad has a keen interest in chamber music, is a founding member of the Ficino Ensemble, and has performed all over Ireland, Europe and Northern America as a chamber musician. She has featured on many albums and soundtracks. 

She currently teaches flute and piccolo at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and in St Louis School of Music in Rathmines.

Katie Tertell, cello

Award-winning American cellist Katie Tertell is a performer and artistic curator, innovating how classical music is digested in modern times. Katie is the Artistic Director and Founder of the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival. She is a core member of chamber collective Musici Ireland , member of critically-acclaimed band Howay the Lasses, artistic lead and co-founder of the “Lost in Plain Sight” research project, and founding member of Cello Power. Formerly a member of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, she enjoys a rich and varied experience as an artist in Europe, America and globally.   

Alongside work with internationally recognized ensembles, recording projects and appearances as a soloist, Katie focuses her attention on projects that aim to connect people through meaningful experiences in music, working cross-disciplinarily and in various sectors.  Since 2019, she has commissioned 13 chamber music works and is a champion of performing works by living composers.

Katie also performs and records with over a dozen celebrated European symphony and chamber orchestras on a freelance basis, including in guest principal roles for Welsh National Opera, English Symphony Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra at the BBC Proms. She can be heard regularly on BBC Radio 3 and RTÈ Lyric FM in recorded and live performances of both chamber and orchestral works. She teaches cello as part of the instrumental teaching staff at Durham University (UK).

Katie grew up outside of Washington D.C. in McLean, Virginia. She holds degrees with honors in performance from Indiana University, Cleveland Institute of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as a Second Masters degree in Suzuki Pedagogy from the Sato Center at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her teachers and mentors include among many Janós Starker, Emilio Colón, Joely Koos, Peter Dixon and Ralph Kirschbaum. She plays on an 1888 Colin-Mezin cello, lovingly named Mr. Darcy.

Fiachra Garvey, piano

Leading Irish pianist Fiachra Garvey is possessed of a maturity and profound understanding of his art, which when combined with his infectious enthusiasm for music-making, has already captivated audiences in concert halls across Europe and beyond. 

1st prizewinner at the prestigious Jaques Samuel Competition (2012), London, Fiachra made his Fazioli Auditorium (Italy) and Wigmore Hall debuts in 2013. Other notable international competition successes including prizes at AXA Dublin International Piano Competition (Brennan Prize and McCullough Bursary), EU Piano Competition Prague (concerto finalist), 3rd Soirees-Concours Internationales de Piano a Collioure, France (Audience award) and Feis Ceoil Dublin (Morris Grant Bursary and Mabel Swainson award).The National Concert Hall Dublin awarded Fiachra the coveted “Rising Star” prize in 2011, which led to a number ofsolo and concerto debuts.

Fiachra graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2013 with 1st class honours and distinction in the M.A. in Music Performance. This follows a 1st class honours B.A. in Music Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2011 and a 1st class honours DipMus (performance and teaching) from the RIAM in 2008.

Concerto appearances include the Janáček Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra, RIAMSymphony Orchestra, Hibernian Orchestra and UCDSymphony Orchestra; working with eminent conductors including John Wilson, Duncan Ward, Ruth Reinhardt, Theodore Kuchar, Stephen Bell and Mihhail Gerts.

Recent highlights include Google Dublin (first classical artist to be invited), Spoleto Italy, Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, NCH Dublin, Snape Maltings Aldeburgh, Petworth Festival, New Ross Piano Festival, St Martin in the Fields, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Brighton Festival, Geneva Festival Switzerland, West Cork Music, St Magnus Festival Orkney, Wexford Opera House, Ortús Chamber Music Festival, Killaloe Chamber Music Festival, Drogheda ClassicalMusic, Clifden Arts Festival, a series of solo and two pianorecitals in Japan and a tour of China.

Fiachra’s debut CD “For the Piano”, under the Lyric FM label, was released in 2012:“brings a deep and infectious enthusiasm, combined with insight and technical comfort.” (Sunday times). His second cd, a live performance from Wigmore Hall was released in 2014.

Fiachra is the founder and artistic director of the West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival (Ireland) described as“Oneof the best classical music festival in Europe” (BBC Music Magazine) and Classical Vauxhall (London) described as“Everything the classical concert in the 21st Century should be” (iNews).

Fiachra was awarded an Associate of the Royal Academy ofMusic, London(ARAM) in 2018, served on the Board of Directors of the Dublin International Piano Competition from 2016- 2022 and was made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in 2021 and a Freeman of the City of London in 2022.

When not performing, Fiachra loves nothing more than returning home to help on the family farm with the yearlylambing, dipping, shearing, harvesting and all the otherelegant and refined activities on the farm! Fiachra feels this makes him a more inspired and fulfilled musician.
